Understanding Pests
Pests can be a nuisance at times, below is some information to help you understand the different pests.

Ants and Flying Ants
A nuisance in your home.

• Crawling from under your skirting board
• Enjoying the heat of your conservatory
• Ruining your BBQs on the patio
• Flying from the fireplace
This behaviour can be very disturbing.

Fleas
Fleas are unpleasant because they bite us and cause skin irritation. Usually brought in to our homes by our loved pets!

Bedbugs
Unfortunately, bedbugs come out at night and bite us while in bed. They can easily be picked up from travelling aboard and from staying in hotels therefore business travellers and holiday makers can be vulnerable. Also be aware of second hand furniture.

Moth
It's not the moths that cause us problems (apart from being a nuisance). It's their larvae that cause damage to our fabrics (clothes, carpets, bed linen etc) by using the fibres to cocoon themselves.

Carpet Beetle
These are similar to moths; it is not the beetles causing damage, but their larvae. They especially enjoy feeding on your woollen or silk carpets. Bare batches can easily appear under your sofa, piano or other furniture that isn't easy to move. It is possible that they have originated from an old bird's nest.

Flies
There are many types of flies that appear in our homes for many reasons. They are especially unpleasant because they spread all kinds of nasty diseases. If you describe the problem to us, we can work out why they are there and what to do to get rid of them.

Mites
There are many types of mites. One of the most common is Bird Mites. If you have birds nesting in or around your home, when the birds leave, the mites come looking for you! They bite and cause skin irritation.

Biscuit Beetles
It is not the beetles causing damage, but the larvae. They eat their way through our biscuits and other stored products (and the packaging). It is possible that they have originated from an old bird's nest.
